The mission of the Center for Archaeological Research includes:

• investigating, understanding, and raising awareness of the archaeological resources of Mississippi and the South through field, laboratory, and collections-based research;
• training graduate and undergraduate students in the methods of archaeology;
• educating the public about what has been learned through archaeology about the diverse cultural groups that have lived in our region in the past, with particular emphasis on Native American societies;
• serving as a repository of archaeological collections.
