Cataloging and Curation of Archaeological Collections

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology and CAR have been working to inventory and curate their archaeological collections.  This project began in 2014 with funding from the College of Liberal Arts for an inventory of the collections.  This inventory determined that the collections include materials from projects sponsored by the University of Mississippi, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the National Resources Conservation Service.  The curation project is currently using funding from the College of Liberal Arts and a grant from the Office of Research and Sponsored programs to catalog, re-box, and re-bag the collections generated by University of Mississippi projects.  These include collections acquired by Calvin Brown during the early 1900s and materials generated by archaeological fieldschools.
